All about our loveable rogue Barney
Share
Barney came to us in December 2015 as a Christmas present for Jamie – owner of Barney’s Corner. He was a present from Jenny, his girlfriend. Jenny had been looking for a dog to rehome for several months before and having not found a dog that was suitable the search had come to a halt. Then randomly one evening Jenny began looking again and found Barney’s ad. A message was sent, and it was arranged for a visit to go and meet the 10-month-old chocolate Labrador puppy. From that single meet up, the rest is history, and he became our beautiful puppy!
Barney was an absolute character, and a complete joy to be around. He was the most loyal loving dog we have ever known. He loved his food; he lived for cuddles and kisses and was mad for snow and water! Which when his Dad who is a keen fisherman proved difficult at times when wanting him to come along for company. Their relationship was still a joy though, pure unconditional love for each other. Barney was always happiest when he was with humans that he loved which in all honestly was far and few. He was very particular about who he liked so if he didn’t grumble at you, you were special.
During his short six years of life with us, he came everywhere with us, be it at work on the farm with Jenny where she worked at the time or even private building jobs with Dad Jamie. If he wasn’t with Jenny or Jamie, he was being spoilt by his Bamps or Auntie Stella! Looking back, we are grateful of his separation anxiety and not being able to be left alone for any length of time, as we never imagined his time with us would have been cut so brutally short. Barney passed away at just six years old in October of 2021. Barney was lost after a very short bout of HGE.
We were so looking forward to seeing how grey he would be and how cheesy his toe beans would get, a great shame for all who knew and loved him, which was a lot of people, family, and friends. We buried him at the farm where he spent most of his days, it was a funeral for him with majority of our family and work family there to see him off. He really was one of kind our ‘Barnicles,’ forever our soul dog and forever missed. He would have loved visiting his very own shop of goodies and naming the shop after him is the perfect tribute to our much-loved pooch.
